Hi All,
Came across the link by chance, delighted to be able to make contact with old colleagues, I am now in regular touch by email with Peter Wilson.
I was appointed as a Senior Assistant Matron to join Matron Sally Jay's Team. with Myfanwy Evans (Deputy Matron) and Julia Williams, Grace Jones and Eric Owen (SAM's) in 1967 and stayed at NWH until 1971, when I moved on as Senior Nursing Officer for Elderly Care with the Winchester Hospital Group.
My time at Denbigh was one of the happiest in my long Nursing Career, we had a brilliant group of colleagues, and I found that whatever was asked of them they always came up trumps. I have now been retired for 14 years, but still remember fondly the times (and laughs) we had together. Peter has let me know of quite a few of the"Old" staff, and sent me a copy of the book about the Hospital. Looking at the photographs brought back many memories.
Sorry to hear about the fire, sad to think that all that history going up in flames.
Would be pleased to hear from anyone who remembers me from that time, or even some of the old Pool Park staff from the 1958 - 1960 era
Cheers
Eifion Evans

I'm Flair, used to live in Henllan, now live in old mental hospital in Hatton warwick and work in forensic psychiatry. I'm interested in these old places and the history although was scared of the place when growing up. My grandad used to be a decorator in the hospital, I'm glad he's not around to see his handiwork now. Still got links to Denbigh as my parents and sister live there. I'm shocked but not surprised by the fire.

Hi, I am Marian, another of these people that like wandering around abandoned buildings taking pictures. Asylums have a special feel about them, a locked in history.
I have been to the Mid Wales Asylum at Talgarth once, and to Denbigh three times now. It is sad the amount that it deteriorated between the first visit in 2007, and the ones in June/July this year. In 2007 the chapel was barely accessible, one broken window, yet open access this year. My friend went back in August too, by which time the mortuary table had been completely smashed.
I hated the MHL stuff, and the total lack of respect that they had for the building and for people in general. Having read some stuff on the forums here, I wonder what was the main motivation for that programme. I am sure that all their alterations and rubbish could have been a factor in the fire.... convenient way to get stuff in with no questions asked.
From what I have read about the developers, I don't think that much can be done to stop them. They don't have an emotional investment in the site; the history of the place and the feelings of those who do mean nothing to them. Theirs is a different culture, and all that matters is the money. By hook or crook.
I wish that I had joined the forum earlier. I wish that I had known about the protest sooner. I wish that it hadn't been trashed. I wish that I could help change things.

Hey, welcome to he site Marian - but please on behalf of us all, try to be more positive!!!! Yes the roof has been burnt down, but please assure yourself that this is only the end of the beginning an and not the begining of the end of our campaign. yes that fat cats have cut off their nose to spite their face and though it may mean nothing to them, we all know that we were scratchhing the surface of something 'big' and i can assure you that we will not stop. Regarding MHL - i am neither fore or against what they did, but do please keep in mind that was it not for them we the public and the concerned few would not have been able to witness for ourselves the damage and abuse endured by NWH... You can help change things by researching - google is a good start - try entering these names and see what you come across: Ayub Bhailok Yousuf Bhailok Mushtaq Bhailok.

Hiya Michelle, i'm Denbigh born and bred like you and I'd say 90% of my family worked at the hospital, including my husband. My taid was a Charge Nurse and acting nursing officer before he retired and the hospital was a huge part of our lives. I remember the Christmas parties fondly..Father Christmas even came to give gifts to the chilkdren of the hospital staff during these parties...great times. I also remember watching my dad and other staff at cricket and football matches and remember the last days of the Trefeirion...I don't think people who are not connected to this place can ever get their heads fully around what was taken from Denbigh when they closed the North Wales Hospital..the heart was ripped out of the community of Denbigh and we are still trying to recover as a town. This is why I feel that their has been such a reaction when Most Haunted got into the place and showed us all just how bad things were. I'll always have fond memories of the place and hope it can be revieved into something which is good for the people of Denbigh. Debbie
